How did Dogma, a relatively low-budget film, manage to have the only good-looking angel wings? Like, even movies with tons of FX dollars tend to fuck them up and they look bad. These are very stylized, and you can tell they’re not real feathers, but they actually look… better than real feathers? They have a balance of curvature and sharp angles that just make for a great silhouette and they move wonderfully. I cannot figure this out!!

I don’t know this show but that’s a fucking practical effect??! Better than most cg. Holy shit.

Please go look up the Crooked Feather. They make practical wings! They are so cool. Someday…. Someday I will have a pair 😂

mindlessmunkey

This is great. You can see how much effort it takes Baffleck with his core muscles to keep his posture upright when they wings are moving. Which I love, because having enormous, working wings would put a huge strain on a humanoid body. It’s good when things don’t seem effortless.

MORE PRACTICAL EFFECTS IN EVERYTHING

also incidentally that’s the Hollywood version of how most cosplay wings are made, except ours are usually EVA foam, hot glue, and heavy duty armature wire.

I got a lot of issues with Dogma, but as someone who has studied and painted a lot of wings over the years: I agree. Most movie and TV wings are TERRIBLE. Like ‘Have you even looked at a bird?’ terrible. And these are good. A little small for a creature as large as that, but pretty damn impressive give the weight confines of a practical effect.

Hello important information!!!

Bread is NOT part of a skeleton's natural diet and feeding it to them can make them sick. Instead try: coins from countries that no longer exist, dead batteries, ballpoint pens, or brass buckles. These are much closer to what skeletons eat in the wild :)

mctreeleth

I live in a coastal region and I generally feed the local skeletons with broken seashells collected during low tide, which are high in calcium and other natural minerals. Very occasionally, such as for celebrations such as last night's solstice, a shard of broken ancient pottery makes a great treat, but be careful, as these are sometimes cursed, and may cause issues for some skeletons.

gothiccharmschool

Our local skeletons really like corks. And they go bonkers over tinfoil, but I haven’t been able to find solid info on if it’s a safe treat for them or not.

vermin-disciple

The curse thing is a myth. Potsherds made from local clays should generally be fine, but note that they may be too rich for skeletons dated pre-Neolithic.
